The Black Spot: Real Estate

May 13, 2011

I was trying to remember 2006.  Really, though, I was trying to remember if Ryan and I were actually as funny as we thought we were on the Black Spot back in 2006.  We were.  Sort of. I found this clip of the two of us bantering back and forth on voices and infomercials and [...]

The Black Spot: Returns

This would be a semi-clever title if it were a sequel to a podcast about finance or anything business related.  It isn’t. I used to have a little weekly radio show up in San Francisco, a talk show, with my buddy Ryan.  It was called The Black Spot and it ran Monday nights from 10-midnight [...]

You Sound Sick

I’m sick.  I’ve got the throat, the lungs, the seven pound headache.  Swallowing is an exercise akin to squeezing a porcupine up against a wolverine. But the weird thing is that it totally mellows out my voice. Draws it deeper and smoother.  Sure, it hurts like a sonuvabitch, but you gotta love that smooth.

Modern3: Ep. 1.1 – What Is It?

Thumbnail image for Modern3: Ep. 1.1 – What Is It?

What is the Daily3?  Truth is I’ve no idea except that it seemed like a good way to sort of push through a lot of the daily, little ideas that just didn’t want to go into writing.  Some ideas want to be talked about.  Some opinions need a voice.  Some voices need to be heard [...]

Modern3: Ep. 1

In this first episode of the Daily3 I take a little less than three minutes to explore the absurdity of trying to record anything with by bloody cat around.  Naturally, the cat gets a bit of the stage fright just as I concede its mewing.

In case you missed this interesting event, here is a clip of my reading for TheNervousBreakdown‘s San Francisco Literary Experience.  The show was at the Makeout Room in the mission district. Having gaged the audience to be both short in attention span and long in their need of laughs I decided to read two of my quicker, [...]

Other Ways to End the Slavery Blame-Game

Hear my thoughts on an article on reparations for slavery. I was surprised to read about reparations and ending the Slavery Blame-Game in an Op-ed piece today by HenryLouis Gates, Jr.  I was surprised because I didn’t know the idea of reparations was still being actively discussed and because I hadn’t realized that, as seems [...]

I had taken a flight to Manhattan, the red-eye, and awoken with a mixture of horror and certainty that I had an STD.

On Being Funny In Your Blog – Rant

I’m always searching for funny writers.  Often, the search terms lead me just off-center of where I want to be to “How to Be Funny” Land.  These little advice columns really piss me off.  It’s another example of bloggers blogging about blogging, the disgusting tendency of an industry with a gross name to triple up on their [...]

KQED Interview Response

Last week I did an interview with Scott Shafer of the California Report about my involvement with Organ Transplantation as a Surgical Coordinator for the California Transplant Donor Network.  It was a good interview and, for the most part, I was pleased with my presentation.  But not totally.  There were a few parts where I [...]
