So I’m headed to DC tomorrow morning for the rest of the week.  I really believe in being a good citizen.  Besides voting, keeping abreast of and an open mind about the issues, and maintaining an active conversation with my peers about those issues, I think travel is a big part of it.  This isn’t, by any means, a political trip.  I’m hoping to go through much of the Smithsonian, check out the Declaration of Independance, and sneer at any people I suspect to be lobyists.

The idea of Dc is funny to me.  If La is about fame, New York about career ambition, San Francisco about personal expression, what’s DC?  Most obviously, it would be about political involvement and about a sense of national pride.  I’m not going there to find anything in particular, but it would be nice to put a face, a humanity, on some of the players.  I don’t mean that I’m planning to see Obama or anything, but being in the same place, I think that’s a good step towards putting people into a human perspective.

I’d like to think Obama is tall.  I have no idea how tall he is.  I’m not expecting seven feet or anything, but I’m hoping, even with boots on that, were I to shake his hand, I’d have to look up, just a bit.  I’d also like to see the man in sweats.  Sweats are about as real as a man can get.
