I’m always searching for funny writers.  Often, the search terms lead me just off-center of where I want to be to “How to Be Funny” Land.  These little advice columns really piss me off.  It’s another example of bloggers blogging about blogging, the disgusting tendency of an industry with a gross name to triple up on their self-importance.  Mostly though, the advice is shitty.  This is a harsh little rant.  A rant is just an expulsion of ideas with a negative or cynical twist, usually stream of conscience.  This one is no better.

I think you missed the point of it. You should write naturally and your opinion. A lot of people in social media, if you hear them in the conventions, will tell you to write naturally, so if you want to be funny, do what you want, but be yourself.

It is not about making people laugh and that was not what my post was about.

You can be funny if you want. And yes, even in a tech blog, you can be funny. (Ever read TechCrunch?) Some people believe that blogging is just another way for journalism. It is not and that was not even the original concept when the phrase weblog and blogging had been coined in the late 90s.

I definitely missed the point of it. Alas, your post got caught up in my general reaction to blogging ‘about’ humor.

Have you ever seen some of these articles people write about how to be funny, how to tell a funny story. “Bring up something in popular culture…” etc.

I read a great comment that somebody wrote on one of these asking, “great review of humor in blogs, but has anyone who wasn’t previously funny become funny because of such advice?”
