This is hilarious. I went looking on google for "I hate djs" because reading Computer Music magazine tends to draw up my ire for the class of people you're ranting about. It's kind of true in some cases that DJs are failed musician wannabes who resort to getting involved the only way they can. The same is true for executives in the film/tv business (actor/writer/director wannabes). What's maybe the most irksome is that many of these people start off with all the posturing and it works well enough to get them money for extra gear, which leads them to play around with more creative mixing, which often leads to making such a mishmash of material that they feel it is their own creation instead of the derivative it really is. Then they start selling the derivatives under their moniker ("DJ DooshBagga G's Latest Kool Release") and before you know it, the "DJ" is suddenly a "producer."

Some of them actually quite naturally find their way through all this in a very sincere manner and end up as actual musicians (though, they still seem to only know how to work from materials premade by others, which seems to be the core ethos of modern popular music). A love of music with an inability to become fluent with an instrument (or music theory, which I have a major problem with myself), leads to getting involved with music in some other fashion. Along comes the "democratization" of music production via technology and they find themselves able to craft things to their preference where they couldn't before. I'm surely somewhere in that area (serious neurological issues in the way of music theory, but I definitely feel music very sincerely).

Blah blah blah. Yo, dis is DJ MC Prodoosa signin off, yo. Word.

I've been a full-time DJ for 21 years. I get hired to play gigs because there is a need for our services. Whoever you are and no matter what your occupation is, you are as expendable as the rest of us. Don't knock another persons ability to make a living in the field that they choose because of your own insecurities. If this is truly Tiesto, I will prove that you don't matter either. I will cut all of your songs from my playlist and not one person will miss it. Off to entertain the people that worked hard all week and are looking to let loose. That's my job.

I'm sorry, there is nothing artistic about a D.J. A "D.J." is no more than a button pusher, NOT a musician. Please!

Rarghhhh! The bit about the headphones demonstrates you're either tongue-in-cheek, or simply ignorant of the DJ's job. If the former, well, I can appreciate the irritation at the posers who just do it out of a desire to fit the fashion image. If the latter, then please try harder in future to actually learn about something before you go criticising it. I've been doing this gig for about 18 years now, and believe me, fuck the whole fashion side of it. The love of the music is the only reason I do it, and the whole bullshit imageryand social play-acting that goes along with it is also the reason I've repeatedly walked out on jobs, because I can't stand the bullshit games. But I sure as shit know that if you're taking yourself seriously in your above post, that I don't do the same. That said, some of your other posts (politics especially) look interesting, and I'll bookmark you and see what you have to contribute in other walks of life.

This is the best article I have ever read!

I am willing to take down all amateur dj's.

I think its time to start an organisation or a group that is globally renowned for its hatred of posers that think they're dj's.

I am willing to go to the extreme to eradicate these Dj's.

If anyone is willing to join my wolfpack, contact me!

I actually did come up with some DJ name for some other piece I wrote which, at the time, I thought was very clever. At least it pleased me. Alas, it didn't have such Latin flare.
